The Good Kind of Stupid Decision

“I made a stupid decision today — everything worked out ok — but it nearly got me really hurt.”

This is the best kind of stupid decision. You get the benefit of all of the learning without any of the consequence.

A saying I have often enjoyed is: To avoid bad judgment you need wisdom. To gain wisdom you need experience. To get experience you need bad judgment.

Life is full of stupid decisions, accidents, failures, and screw-ups. Cherish those that work out ok in the end but treat them with the same reverence that you would a full on mistake. What is there to learn? How do you want to gain from the good fortune of this near miss?

Don’t let nightmares of possible outcomes stand in the way of genuine learning and gratitude.
