People often ask me how I have accomplished so many different things in my life. There are of course many different aspects, disciplines, and qualities that I believe help me do this but one of them is jumping on inspiration when it comes.
Sometimes a particular project or idea comes percolating to the surface of your consciousness and it demands your attention. An “aha!” moment if you will. When I feel one of these I take it and run with it. Whatever I’m working on I put it aside, even if just for a few minutes, to jot down notes or get right to the true creative meat.
I think the world of smartphones and portable computers is particularly conducive to this kind of just in time creation. I like that when I suddenly have a thought for something to write or a new project I can sit down, pop open my laptop and type it up, or make some notes on my cell phone, or even record a voice memo.
These moments of creative inspiration are my most productive, if I catch them I can accomplish in 30 minutes what might take me several hours of brain wracking to squeeze out at another less inspired time.
So take hold of your creative inspirations and set them to action as soon as you feel them.
